Archive for August, 2013

And we couldn’t not have done it without all of you.

As millions of kids head back to school this week, we just wanted to take a moment to thank YOU, our amazing community, for making the 2013 Back to School Brigade such an incredible success. Drumroll, please….

We served over 41,000 children with backpacks and supplies through official Operation Homefront hosted events at 128 locations nationwide!

WOW!

This was the 6th year of our Back to School program, and it just gets better every year.  And the smiles we get to see on the faces of our military kids?  Priceless!

No better thank you than this!

Thank you Dollar Tree for collecting school supplies and to the hundreds of volunteers nationwide who collected, sorted and packed thousands of back packs in July and August.  Many of those volunteers were active duty military, who extend their commitment to service to include their communities and the families of their fellow men and women in uniform. You inspire us every day.

Our heroes giving back even more.

The Back to School Brigade program is a perfect example of what we can do when we all band together to look out for one another.  From companies like SAIC, La Quinta Inns and Suites and BAE Systems, to school and youth groups, non profits and small businesses, we were able to show that no amount of help is too small to make a difference.

Volunteers from SAIC support BTSB 2013. Just one of many companies who supported the program through volunteering or collecting supplies.

The NG Youth Summer Camp came to help our Nevada field Office sort all of the donated school supplies in preparation for the Back to School Brigade distribution event in Las Vegas! Hail to all the Summer Campers

So, from all of us here at Operation Homefront, “Thank You” for making a huge difference in the lives of our military children.  There are an estimated 1.2 million school aged military children, and on average they attend 6 to 9 different school systems from kindergarten to 12th grade. They serve too, and programs like these offer us all a chance to show them we remember and we care.

thankyou

If you have a picture of your military child at one of our Back to School Brigade events, we invite you to send them to socialnet@operationhomefront.net and we’ll add them to our Pinterest board Back to School Brigade 2013

Also, mark your calendars for another chance to celebrate and honor our military kids when we open up nominations for Military Child of the Year in October.
